This page states exactly what the Plare site stores in your browser, what each item is for and how to remove it. It is the detail behind section 5 of the Privacy Policy, which covers personal data processing in general.
1. Cookies and local storage
These are two similar technologies with one difference worth knowing, because it changes what you can delete:
- Cookies are small files the server sends and the browser returns with every request. They let the site remember you between pages.
- Local storage stays in the browser but is never sent to the server. That is where your theme preference lives, for example.
Neither is executable, neither reaches files on your computer, and neither is used to identify you by name.
2. Strictly necessary
Without these the site does not work properly. They do not depend on consent, because they are not used for measurement or advertising.
- Language (
NEXT_LOCALE) — stores the language you chose, so the site does not guess again on every visit. Valid for 1 year. - Authentication session — issued by our authentication provider when you sign in to your account. It keeps the session alive between pages. It expires when you sign out or when the token does.
- Security — cross-site request forgery (CSRF) protection cookies, tied to the sign-in flow.
3. Preferences (local storage)
These stay in your browser and are never sent to our servers:
- Theme (
plare-theme) — whether you chose light, dark or follow the system. It is what stops the page from appearing in the wrong theme while it loads. - Consent (
plare:cookie-consent) — the choice you made in the banner, so we do not ask again.
4. Audience measurement (optional)
We use Google Analytics 4 to learn, in aggregate, which pages are visited and which content helps most. These cookies are only set after you accept in the banner on your first visit.
_ga— distinguishes visitors. Valid for up to 2 years._ga_<identifier>— keeps the measurement session state. Valid for up to 13 months.
If you decline — or never answer — Google is loaded in consent-denied mode: no analytics or advertising cookie is set, and nothing is associated with you.
5. What we do not use
- No advertising cookies and no ad personalisation, and we do not sell browsing data.
- No cross-site tracking — we do not build a profile of you from what you visit elsewhere.
- The desktop app uses no cookies. Plare works offline and does not measure what you draw.
6. How to control or delete them
At any time, without losing essential functionality, you can:
- Change your mind about measurement — clear the site’s data in your browser; the banner reappears and the new choice is respected.
- Block cookies in your browser settings. Third-party cookies can be blocked without affecting sign-in, but blocking the necessary ones stops the site working properly.
- Delete everything — clearing the site’s data removes the language, the theme and the consent. On the next visit the site behaves as if it were the first.
Each browser has its own path for this: look for “Cookies” or “Site data” in its preferences. We cannot do that clearing for you — it is a decision only your browser can make.
7. Changes
If we start using a new category of cookies, this page is updated and the banner asks for consent again before any new cookie is set. The revision date is always at the top of the page.
